About Us

It is probably apt to say, that the story of how Telugu Badi Cypress came into existence is that of “passion meets a pathfinder”. One was very passionate to teach the language to the younger generation, educate them about the greatness of our culture and traditions and dedicate his leisure time in promoting Telugu language in whatever way he could! He is Kondal Rao Kumpatla.  Another believed that our mother tongue, culture and traditions we follow connect us to our roots and defines our personality and helps in building a sense of belongingness and he was committed to do his part to inculcate these in younger generation! He is Vinod Udthawar.

It started as a home school during weekends at Kondal Rao’s home for kids interested in learning Telugu. With a noble idea of imparting the language to children across the North West Houston area, he and Vinod came up with an idea of starting Telugu school. In order to have a greater reach across the Telugu community and to get proper support in all aspects, they believed , it would be best to  be affiliated to  Telugu Cultural Association (TCA, Houston), which has a glorious history of serving our community for the past 40+ years.

In Oct 2014, TCA Telugu Badi Cypress started its classes with 45 students and 8 volunteers. Year after year, Telugu Badi has grown consistently in numbers. Telugu Badi Cypress stands tall and firm in its ideals and beliefs thanks to the efforts of its founders Kondal Rao Kumpatla, Vinod Udthawar, co-admin Sushma Maddineni, Annapurna Pulluri, all its dedicated teachers and each and every parent who send their kids to Telugu Badi. Highly committed and dedicated team at Telugu Badi Cypress not only teach the language but encourage and train the kids to participate in Telugu competitions conducted annually by all the branches of TCA Telugu Badi. These competitions are open to students from all over Houston which consist of poem recitation, elocution, vocabulary, writing and reading. Teachers with the help of parents, prepare children to perform in small skits and other cultural activities like songs and dances which showcase the significance of Telugu.
